The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive is a measure adopted by the European Parliament and Council.

Its aim is to reduce energy consumption in residential and non-domestic sectors.[1]

As a non-domestic building with an area > 1000 m² we have to follow the articles below:

  • Article 6 - all new buildings must consider low- and zero-carbon technologies.

  • Article 11 - energy performance certificates (EPCs) must be issued at key stages of a building’s life; public authorities must implement the recommendations.

  •  Article 14 - larger boilers must be inspected, or advice given.

  •  Article 15 - larger air-conditioning systems must be inspected, or advice given.

To sum up, we have to display an EPC and aiming for zero-carbon technologies. An inspection of the biomass boiler and the cooling system is required every 2 years by independent assessed experts (article 17).
